My connection to the Bay of Quinte region is longstanding. I have United Empire Loyalist heritage through the historic Tripp family, giving my family deep roots in this area without making it the focus of my identity. I also hold my late uncle James Conrad Tripp’s historical ledger — a record of local family history that reflects generations of community involvement and stewardship.
My family’s service to Canada spans multiple generations. My grandparents, Master Warrant Officer 2nd Class John Matwyuk of the RCAF and Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Frances Matwyuk of the WRENS, both served during the Second World War. Their commitment to duty and community shaped the values passed down through our family.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Life
My life is centered around my family. My wife, Ashley, is a dedicated local educator. We first met in September 1991 in Mrs. Dickson’s Grade 1 class at Georges Vanier — the same school our children now attend. Together we are raising three children:

- Charlotte, who loves dance
We are a neurodivergent household, and two of our children live with disabilities. This gives me direct, lived experience with:

Parenting within these systems has shaped my understanding of how critical accuracy, reliability, and transparency are to protective family environments.
🏥 Community Health and Support
Our family has been deeply supported by the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Their exceptional care in diagnosing and treating Lilli’s severe onset Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis is the reason I hold an annual Extra Life fundraiser for CHEO. It is one of the most meaningful ways I give back to an institution that has done so much for us.
